Local women combine family life with business

The business of women is something I ponder a lot during my busy work day. I find that women and business always seem to be intertwined with the home, family, friends and hobbies. Multi-tasking seems to be the mantra of today’s woman and the mantra of many women in the October edition of Views & Voices coming out Wednesday and dedicated to business women.

I enjoyed learning more about a woman’s day via Mercer County’s largest industry — agriculture. Three women share their stories including the joys and struggles of working in the farming industry.

Meet shopkeeper Maria Getz, who revived a store and a dream with her general store in Plain Grove, just north of Volant. Businesswoman Carole Kettering, combined her faith with works by creating a line of “God Cards” that she sells locally.

Another good combination includes recipes from Amanda Stanek, owner of The Kitchen Shoppe in Volant, and Bryan Rhodes of Volant Mill Winery, who pair wine and food in creative and tasty ways.

Get some good business advice from Carolyn Laughlin of National City Bank and spend an interesting day at historical Lily Dale Assembly, New York, where spiritualists have gathered for years.

Take a break from your busy day at Selah in Struthers, uniquely located in a former bank, or do good while having fun at an upcoming quilt show and meet a group of quilters with passion for their favorite pastime. Take time to enjoy the creative costumes that readers submitted and learn how to make your own.

If you don’t think you have spare time in your busy schedule, pick up this issue, put your feet up and take some time for yourself. You deserve it!
