WM graduate Allen inducted into Seton Hill Hall of Fame
West Middlesex High product Amy Allen was one of six individuals who made up the third class of inductees into the Seton Hill University Athletic Hall of Fame.
Allen was a volleyball and basketball star at the school in Greensburg, Pa. During her time on the court for Seton Hill, she was named to the NAIA All-District teams in both hoops and volleyball. She was also fifth in the nation in 3-point shooting.
Allen was a 4-year starter for Rick Hall’s volleyball team and had the second-highest blocking percentage in the NAIA her senior season.
After graduating, she became a manager for Sharon Regional Health System.
The former greats were inducted at a luncheon on Sept. 27 and then were introduced during the Homecoming football game against Shepherd.
Allen was part of 10 former greats that were the first inductees into the West Middlesex High Athletic Hall of Fame in Dec. of 2007.
At WMHS, Allen, a 1987 graduate, participated in volleyball, basketball and track. She was a 4-year varsity letter winner in volleyball and basketball.
In volleyball, she was the MVP of the Mercer County Athletic Conference her senior year and was first-team All-MCAC in her junior year.
In hoops, she was the MCAC MVP as a junior and senior. She was on the All-MCAC first team as a sophomore and earned honorable mention as a freshman.
She bucketed 1,218 points and was the school’s first female to reach the 1,000-point mark.
In track, Allen was a 2-year letterwinner. She was the District 10 silver medalist in the 300-meter hurdles and a state qualifier.
ä It was good news/bad news for 15-year old local racer Gene Kirila III of Transfer.
The good news was that Gene was selected as one of 28 out of 704 drivers to participate in the Ron Sutton driver career development shootout event in Sacramento, Calif.
The recent 3-day weekend consisted of media testing, personal interviews, sports psychology testing and a track test in a Ford Focus Midget. It is held to select the top 6 drivers who will be given a full scholarship into the program.
Those six drivers are matched up with a pro race team for 2009 and run races in their equipment — Sprint cars, Late Models, Formula Fords and Midgets.
