Joe Sebastian of Hermitage was recognized recently for his 50 years membership in the U.S. Power Squadron.

The organization is dedicated to educating boaters with courses to help them boat safely. U.S. Power Squadron National Commander’s representative, Vice Commander Frank Dvorak, presented the honor.

Sebastian joined the Pymatuning Power Squadron and rose in the ranks to squadron commander. He was recognized as a leader and was asked to join the District 11 Bridge, where he became district commander.

Sebastian joined New Castle Power Squadron in 1988 and acted as an instructor, proctor and vessel safety inspector.

He and his wife, Mae, are active in the New Castle group.
