Scudere to play for PAC tennis championships

Westminster College sophomore April Scudere, a Brookfield High graduate, will compete for Presidents’ Athletic Conference tennis championships on Saturday in both singles and doubles.
On Friday at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie, Scudere defeated Waynesburg’s Laura Garcia, 7-5, 6-1, in the semifinals at No. 1 singles.
On Saturday, she will face Grove City College’s Tamara Nations for the title.
Scudere, the defending PAC champ at No. 4 singles, earned a bye in the first round to advance to the semis.
Scudere will team up with Hilary Newman Saturday to battle Grove City College’s Kait Garcia and Chris Sager for the No. 2 doubles crown.
Scudere-Newman earned a first-round bye on Friday and then defeated Washington & Jefferson’s Kerri DiGiovanni and Alyssa Tousignant, 8-4, in the semifinals.
At sixth singles on Friday, Westminster’s Natalia Hruska (Hickory High) earned a bye in the first round and then lost to Grove City’s Sager, 6-0, 6-2, in the semis. Hruska will play Chatham’s Megan Padula Saturday for third place.
Grove City led the team standings with 36 points after the opening day of the PAC Championships. Westminster was 2nd with 28 points.
Other team scores: Waynesburg (24), Washington & Jefferson (10), Chatham (8), Bethany (2) and Thomas More (0).
