WEST MIDDLESEX High graduate Barry McLaughlin is having an impressive year for the Edinboro University cross country team.

McLaughlin, a sophomore, placed 25th (24:23) last Friday at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem.

Edinboro competed in the Brown Race at the event, which featured mostly Division I schools. They were 23rd out of 45 teams. Wisconsin (52) was 1st, followed by Syracuse (96).

Freshman Danielle Cerroni, a Sharon High product, finished 100th (24:20), for the Edinboro women.

McLaughlin, Nick Hankins and Ben Hahn teamed up for a winning time of 54:34 on Sept. 27 at the Edinboro Rag Relays. McLaughlin posted the fastest of the 3 legs (18:03) and the fastest single leg (4:21).

On Sept. 20 at the UW-Parkside Midwest Collegiate Open in Wisconsin, McLaughlin finished 2nd (26:07). The Scots were 2nd out of 16 teams.

Cerroni placed 50th, clocking in at 20:38.

The Edinboro teams return to action on Oct. 22 at the Wooster Relays.

ä Sharon High product Arica Christman and Commodore Perry graduate Stephanie Cattron are having fine seasons for the Penn State-Behrend women's tennis team.

In a recent match, PSU-Behrend improved to 7-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and 12-2 overall with a 9-0 sweep of Penn State-Altoona.

Christman notched a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with Cattron to notch an 8-2 victory at second doubles.

ä Tuesday's District 10 Golf Championships contained some big-time surprises.
