WEST MIDDLESEX High graduate Barry McLaughlin is having an impressive year for the Edinboro University cross country team.
McLaughlin, a sophomore, placed 25th (24:23) last Friday at the Paul Short Invitational at Lehigh University in Bethlehem.
Edinboro competed in the Brown Race at the event, which featured mostly Division I schools. They were 23rd out of 45 teams. Wisconsin (52) was 1st, followed by Syracuse (96).
Freshman Danielle Cerroni, a Sharon High product, finished 100th (24:20), for the Edinboro women.
McLaughlin, Nick Hankins and Ben Hahn teamed up for a winning time of 54:34 on Sept. 27 at the Edinboro Rag Relays. McLaughlin posted the fastest of the 3 legs (18:03) and the fastest single leg (4:21).
On Sept. 20 at the UW-Parkside Midwest Collegiate Open in Wisconsin, McLaughlin finished 2nd (26:07). The Scots were 2nd out of 16 teams.
Cerroni placed 50th, clocking in at 20:38.
The Edinboro teams return to action on Oct. 22 at the Wooster Relays.
ä Sharon High product Arica Christman and Commodore Perry graduate Stephanie Cattron are having fine seasons for the Penn State-Behrend women's tennis team.
In a recent match, PSU-Behrend improved to 7-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference (AMCC) and 12-2 overall with a 9-0 sweep of Penn State-Altoona.
Christman notched a 6-2, 6-4 win at No. 1 singles and teamed with Cattron to notch an 8-2 victory at second doubles.
ä Tuesday's District 10 Golf Championships contained some big-time surprises.
