District 10 golf championships today; Hornettes top KC in soccer

Kennedy Catholic High senior Michael Klaric leads a local contingent of 16 linksters that will take part in today’s District 10 Championships at Oak Tree Country Club.
Last year, Klaric fired a 70 at Grove City Country Club to win the title, edging Cathedral Prep’s Gregor Orlando by 1 stroke.
Today’s tourney begins at 9:45 a.m.
Other locals who will compete today include:
Greenville: Tyler Blaschak.
Grove City: Ryan Prokay and Steve Deyarmin.
Hickory: Rick Rosati and Will McIntyre.
Jamestown: Ryan Avril.
Kennedy Catholic: Klaric, Eric Grasso, Dante Vetica and Jonathan Loomis.
Reynolds: Brandon Thompson.
Sharon: Shawn Matsko.
Sharpsville: Andy Demofonte, Matt and Steve Chuba and Jared Morrin.
ä Also today is the girls championship at Riverside Golf Course in Cambridge Springs. No information on the event was posted on the District 10 website.

ä Grove City 5, Sharon 0 — At Grove City College, the Lady Eagles improved to 14-0 with a sweep of the Lady Tigers.

GIRLS SOCCER
ä Hickory 3, Kennedy Catholic 0 — At Butala Stadium, Hermitage, the Hornettes blanked the Lady Golden Eagles (2-9).
Kendra Pyne, Amy Ward and Allison Richards garnered goals for Hickory (5-0 region, 10-2 overall), and Richards and Pyne were credited with assists. Goalkeepers Karen Szabo and Kasey Walter combined for 5 saves, and the Hornettes had a 35-5 edge in shots on goal.
GIRLS VOLLEYBALL
ä Lakeview 3, Sharon 1 — At Sharon, the Lady Sailors defeated Sharon (1-12), 22-25, 25-15, 25-12, 25-19.

ä Crestview 3, Brookfield 0 — In Columbiana County, the visiting Lady Warriors were swept 25-13, 25-19, 25-18.
