Sharon, Lakeview teams win LL titles
Sharon won its second straight District 2 Little League Junior (13-14) League championship recently with an 11-6 victory over Sharpsville.
Sharon came out of the losers’ bracket to defeat Sharps-ville twice and advance to the Pa. Section Tournament. Sharon received a bye in the opening round and will play at 5:30 p.m. Friday against the winner of Districts 26 and 4
In the district final, Sharon put a 5-spot on the scoreboard in the 5th inning for an 8-3 lead and held off Sharpsville the rest of the way.
Nick Carlo went 6 innings on the mound for the victors, yielding 6 hits, while whiffing 5 and walking 4. Robbie Rice and Vinny Shaffer closed out the game, allowing no hits. Brian Stafford, Taylor Lenzi and Derrick Odem hurled for Sharpsville.
Leading Sharon at the plate were: Leo Rahn a double and 2 singles, Rice a single and triple, and Jarrell Lampkins, Jakob Allshouse and Cody Frazier singles.
For Sharpsville, Odem had a single and double, Ross Llewellyn 2 singles, and Jay-lenn Mockabee, Joey Flynn and Joe Gill singles.
Senior Softball
Lakeview beat Conneaut Valley 5-3 recently, winning the District 1 Senior Little League championship.
Lakeview’s defense got off to a shaky start, giving up all 3 runs in the first inning on several miscues, but from there on played solid. Lakeview erased the 3-0 deficit in the fourth when shortstop Brittany Smith and outfielder Molly Baxter each drove in an RBI to make it 3-2.
Catcher Shannon Dick tied the game 3-3 in the fifth, driving in center fielder Chasity McCloskey with a grounder.
Lakeview took the lead in the sixth when shortstop Brittany Smith hit a single up the middle of the infield, scoring first baseman Amber Roberts.
Smith moved up to third on a throwing error, scoring on a grounder by outfielder Kristen Smith to make it 5-3.
Allison Beggs had a stellar performance on the mound for Lakeview, surrendering only 5 hits and 3 walks while striking out 9 batters.
Lakeview advanced to the Section 1 tournament in Corry, but the team was eliminated after a loss to DuBois.
