West Middlesex won the championship of the District 2 Little League Major Division (11) All-Star Tournament with a 17-3 romp over host Hermitage Thursday.
The winners scored 5 runs in each of the first 2 innings then ended the contest in the 4th after scoring 7 more. Trey Staunch went the distance for the win, fanning 7, walking 3 and allowing just 3 hits. Mike Gladysz belted a homer, double and single to lead the hitting, while Riley Atterholt added a round-tripper. Also for WM, Andrew Long ripped a double and 2 singles, Staunch a double and single, and Branden Dick, Mike Bacchetti, Mike Comninos and Jered Horgos singles.
Evan Baughman, Brady Leunis and Pat Moldovan hurled for Hermitage, and Moldovan had a pair of singles, while Timmy Cannon added a double.
West Middlesex advances to play in the Section tournament at Moon Township Thursday.
State tourneys here
Local fields will be busy this coming week as Hermitage and West Middlesex play host to state Little League Major Division tournament action.
The western state playoffs begin at Hermitage on Monday.
Game times are 5:30 and 8 p.m. Monday through Wed-nesday. The championship game will be played at 7 p.m. Thursday.
The winner will advance from that tournament to the state finals at West Middlesex on the weekend.
Games featuring the eastern champ against the west winner in a best-of-3 series will begin Saturday and continue Sunday and Monday (if necessary). All games there will begin at 8 p.m.
