WM cops District2 Little League Minor Division (9-10) championship

West Middlesex defeated Grove City, 9-2, Wednesday to win the District 2 Minor League (9-10) Championship.
The winners advance to Pennsylvania Section play at Elizabeth Twp. on July 24 against the District 26 champ.
West Middlesex scored 4 runs in each of the first 2 innings and never looked back. Ryan Dogan and Mitchell Murray each hurled 3 innings for the winners, who were led at the plate by: Josh Porterfield, homer and 2 doubles; Dogan and Gavin Kroesan, doubles; A.J. Allen, Phil Fusco and Noah Bender singles.
Tucker McBride, Brandon Record and Derek Cameron pitched for Grove City, and Record, Cameron and Snyder had singles.
ä John Thiel pitched and batted Sharon Knights of Columbus to a recent 5-2 victory over Brookfield’s Pirates, clinching the Sharon Major Division championship.
At Wengler, Thiel tossed 4 frames of 5-strikeout, 4-hit ball and helped himself by stroking a pair of singles, while teammates Paul Spondike and Shawn Josa jolted home runs. Spondike added a single and pitched 2 innings of 2-hit relief, fanning 4.
For the Bucs, Anthony Wielbruda and Lon Schell split the mound duties, fanning 4 and 3, respectively, and Schell smacked 3 hits and Joey Clark collected a single and double.
K of C 13, Brookfield Scrappers 1 (4 inn.) — At Brookfield, Josa singled, tripled and homered, and both Spondike and Dale Herman singled and doubled. Thiel tossed 2 innings, fanning 4, and Michael Vannoy and Spondike each added an inning of relief. combining for 3 strikeouts.
Scrappers’ starter Jake Varga suffered the setback, though he whiffed 3, and Matt Smoot relieved, while Dave Wise whacked a pair of hits.
