Published July 15, 2008 08:10 pm - Sharon rolled past West Middlesex, 16-7, to win the District 2 Junior League (13-14) All-Star tournament championship Monday at Buhl Farm Park field.

District 2 Little League results



Sharon rolled past West Middlesex, 16-7, to win the District 2 Junior League (13-14) All-Star tournament championship Monday at Buhl Farm Park field.

The winners scored 4 runs in the 1st inning and never trailed en route to going undefeated in the tournament.

Nick Carlo picked up the win, going 4ìinnings, while Gino Merolillo, Steve Wareham and Vinny Shaffer also hurled for Sharon. Leading the winners at the plate were: Jimmy Anderson, double and 2 singles; Wareham, 2 singles; Carlo, a double; and Matt Kelly, Xavier Mosley, Tyler Little, Merolillo, Jason Sypolt, Nick Gadola and Shaffer, singles.

Collin Patton and James Gearhart pitched for West Middlesex, which was led at the plate by Gearhart’s 3-run homer and 2 singles; Jessie Nych’s double, and Bryce Newton’s a pair of singles.

ä In an earlier game, West Middlesex edged Mercer, 10-9, to make the finals. Newton, Nych and Michael Ginther pitched for Middlesex, while Gearhart went 4-for-4 with a homer to lead the winners, Nych had 2 singles and Kite, Newton, Devlin, Whelan, Patton and Eshbaugh 1 each.

For Mercer, Brydon Emhoff, Joel Soloman and Culligan pitched. Emhoff had a double and single, Miller and Wimer 2 singles each and Collins and Culligan doubles.

MINOR DIVISION (9-10)

ä Grove City 9, West Middlesex 4 — The winners jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead and never looked back in the championship series game. The two teams will play again at 6 p.m. today at Grove City for the District 2 championship.

Justin Griffin and Austin Wilson pitched for the victors, who were led at the plate by Griffin, with a 2-run homer and single; Jordan Anderson, double eand single; Wilson, 3 singles; Derek Cameron, 2 singles, and Brandon Record, a single.

Nate Patten, Gavin Kroesan, A.J. Allen, Phillip Fusco and Dylan Long toed the rubber for West Middlesex, which was led offensively by Mitch Murray, with a triple and single; Patten, Kroesan, Noah Bender and Ryan Dogan, with singles, and Murray, who stole home twice.

SECTION 2 TOURNEY

Greenville suffered a 15-11 loss to host Connellsville on Monday in the 11-12 division. The locals played Ligonier at 4 p.m. Tuesday but results were not submitted to The Herald.
