GC, Sharon notch wins in Major Division action



Saturday’s Games

MAJOR DIVISION (12)

ä Grove City 11, New Castle 1 (5 innings) — At New Castle’s Dean Field, Ryan Grace allowed just one hit as Grove City improved to 1-1 in pool play.

Grace also struck out four, walked 3 and yielded an unearned run.

Grove City opened the game by posting 5 runs in the first inning, 4 in the fifth and single runs in the second and fourth innings.

Offensively for GC, Kyle Trinch went 3-for-3 with a home run and 2 RBIs; Foster Reznor homered, singled and drove in 2; Collin Lawson singled twice with a pair of RBIs; and Shane Grace plated 2 runs.

For New Castle (0-2 in pool play), Ricky Conti’s single was the lone hit, while Vince Janetti, Brandon Domenick and Nico DeJohn took turns on the mound. — Information submitted by Allied News Sports Editor Corey J. Corbin.

ä Sharon 13, Farrell-Wheatland 3 (4 inn.) — At Wheatland, the hosts took a 1-0 lead after the first inning but Sharon plated 9 runs in the top of the 2nd to put the game away.

Mike Songer, Cody Frazier and Leo Rahn pitched for Sharon. They combined on 8 strikeouts, 8 walks and did not allow a hit.

Trevor Austin and Gerald Zachar took turns on the hill for Farrell-Wheatland. The duo fanned 3, walked 7 and gave up 8 hits.

Offensively for Sharon, Justin Stefanowicz doubled and singled, Vinnie Shaffer ripped a double, Rahn had 2 singles and Songer, Nick Carlo and John Benedetto all singled.
