District 2 Little League results



Rain hampered Thursday's District 2 Tournment. Here are results of recent D-2 action submitted to The Herald:

MAJOR (11-12)

ä Grove City 2, Farrell 0 — At Farrell, the visitors’ Jake Cline collected 7 strikeouts in firing a complete-game 4-hitter and Dylan Osborne drilled a 2-run 6th-inning single, snapping a scoreless stalemate.

Underwood and Beckart fanned 5 and 6, respectively, in a combined 2-hitter. Ryan Palmer produced Grove City’s other hit, while Henry (2) and Grandy (1) stroked Farrell’s lone safeties.

ä Grove City 10, Lakeview 0 (4 inn.) — At Grove City, winning pitcher Ben Lucas allowed just 1 hit — Hunter Armstrong’s single — and struck out 6. Jesse Hodge doubled, as did Marcus Depeal, and Derek Turner, Foster Reznor, Palmer, Jared Sample and Lucas lent singles.

ä West Middlesex 8, Sharpsville 2 — At West Middlesex, Trey Staunch struck out 12 in 5 frames and Brandon Dick drilled a pair of doubles and Mike Gladysz another for Middlesex. Also, Andrew Long singled twice and Staunch, Mike Bacchetti and Adam Hubert smacked singles. Riley Atterholt and Long relieved Staunch.

Sage Barringer, Morgan Titus and Anthony DelFratte took turns on the mound for Sharpsville, with Barringer whiffing 3, and Chris Enos singled twice and Jacob McCall and Miles Bowser once apiece.

ä Greenville 10, West Middlesex 7 — At West Middlesex, Lucas Houpt and Colin Yake yanked homers and doubles and Houpt gained credit for the win by whiffing 9 in 5 frames. Also, Tyler Fattman singled and doubled, Matt Jones tripled, Alex Gentile singled twice, and Houpt, Kendall King and Andy Jones chipped in base knocks.

For Middlesex, Christian Porterfield pounded a home run, triple and single and Nate Anthony added a pair of hits. Sage Pope and Christian Porterfield produced a handful of KO’s betweeen them, and Pope, Mike Rossi and Ethan Thompson tallied hits.

ä West Middlesex 18, Farrell 4 (5 inn.) — At West Middlesex, Marky Colella clobbered a pair of homers, as did Aaron Webb, and Colella also collected 5 strikeouts in 3ê innings from the hill. Also, Porterfield popped another round-tripper and fanned all 4 hitters he faced, Clay Allen added a single and triple, Anthony and Pope 3 and 2 hits, respectively, and Allen and Thompson stroked safeties.

For Farrell, Henry, Pickens, Scott and Zachar took turns on the mound, and Scott slapped 2 singles and Zachar, Henry and Marshall 1 each.

ä Hermitage 10, Grove City 5 — At Hermitage, Matt French homered twice and Xabian Howze and Nate Mastrian also manufactured homers to back Matt Brooks’ pitching. He struck out 7 in a route-going performance. Also, Jason Gay doubled and French, Matt Delmonaco, Anthony Cannone, Mastrian and Brooks singled.

Foster Reznor ripped a home run in a losing cause, while Lucas lent a pair of hits and Cline, Hodge and Depeal 1 apiece. Cline and Hodge split the mound duties.

MINOR DIVISION (9-10)

ä West Middlesex 11, Greenville 7 — At West Middlesex, A.J. Allen doubled and tripled and Josh Porterfield singled and doubled for winning West Middlesex. Also, pitchers Ryan Dogan, Philip Fusco, Gavin Krosean and Mitchell Murray combined to strike out 6, with Dogan fanning 4. Nate Patten punched a double for the winners, and Brett Kirk clubbed 2 hits and Nick Miller, Murray, Dylan Long and Tanner Powell 1 apiece.
