Marlin Jackson to host fund-raiser, clinic and tourney

— Indianapolis Colts cornerback Marlin Jackson won a Super Bowl ring designating an NFL championship. But the former Sharon High great also champions other causes even more important than that.
That’s while the former Michigan U. All-American will be hosting a celebrity weekend in his own hometown in June to help raise money for the Marlin Jackson Fight for Life Foundation.
On Friday, June 6, Jackson and some of his friends from around the NFL will host a “Serving Up Dreams” celebrity server dinner and auction at Avalon Golf and Country Club at Buhl Park, beginning a 7 p.m.
 Among those expected to attend are Colts safety Antoine Bethea, cornerback Kelvin Hayden, Steelers’ safety Anthony Smith (former Hubbard High star) and Bengals running back Chris Perry as well as other surprise guests.
Tickets and sponsorship opportunities for this private event range from $75 - $10,000.  All proceeds will benefit the Marlin Jackson Fight for Life Foundation.  For more information, visit marlinjackson.org or call Nickie Goestenkors at 314-291-1880.
The foundation, a fund of the Institute of Science and Health, helps make an impact in the lives of youths by focusing on the areas of education and wellness. Jackson tries to enlighten children on overcoming peer pressures of poverty by encouraging positive behaviors in an effort to reach their dreams and goals.
On Saturday, June 7, Jackson will host a free football clinic for ages 8-13 years.  The clinic provides youth the opportunity to work on their football skills, sportsmanship, and teamwork skills, while building self-esteem both on and off the field. 
Each participant will receive a T-shirt and refreshments as well as have the opportunity to meet Jackson and other NFL players.  Space is limited to the first 300 kids to register early.
Beginning at 1 p.m., Jackson will host a free 7-on-7 flag football tournament for youth ages 14-18 years.  Space is limited.  For more information or to get a registration form, visit www.marlinjackson.org.
