BASEBALL ä Sharon 15, Reynolds 0 (6 inn.) — At Transfer, Mike Tomko belted a grand slam and Todd Rearick twirled a no-hitter as the Region 1 champion Tigers (14-0, 17-0) became the 1st Sharon baseball team to go undefeated since Mike Smith’s squad in 1976. Rearick struck out 11 and walked 4. Tomko was 2-for-3 with a double and Rearick was 3-for-4 with a double and triple. Also, Cory Johnson had a 2-run double, Gary Revale collected 2 singles and 2 RBI, Dustin Norcross ripped a pair of singles, Sam Schweiss was 3-for-4 with 2 doubles and Zac Anderson had an RBI-single. “I’m real proud of the kids,” said Tiger coach Bill Dorfi. “They showed a lot of heart this season.” Luke Taylor took the loss in pitching 5 frames for the Raiders. He fanned 1, walked 2 and gave up 9 runs on 10 hits. Sharon is expected to draw an opening-round bye in the upcoming District 10 playoffs. ä Franklin 10, Hickory 7 — At Franklin, the visiting Hornets’ unblemished season was spoiled when the Knights notched a game-winning 5-run rally in the 6th stanza. Shawn Cogswell’s bases-loaded triple and Bryn Smith’s 2-run home run highlighted Franklin’s furious rally. Starting pitcher Cameron Hovis yielded 6 runs on 7 hits, walked 2 and fanned 4 in 5 1/3 innings, then reliever Ryan Malachina earned the save. Also for Franklin (7-6, 7-12), Tyler Moss muscled a 3-run homer, Mason McFeaters another 2 hits, and Smith also doubled. For playoff-bound Hickory (13-1, 17-1), Taylor Englebaugh blasted a 2-run homer, Lukas Gurrera singled and doubled, and Jaymee Shephard, Garen Ream and Ryan Voisey drilled doubles, with Voisey’s driving in a pair. Hickory reliever David Schafer allowed 5 runs on 2 hits and struck out 1. ä Meadville 12, Grove City 1 (6 inn.) — At Grove City’s Memorial Park, the visiting Bulldogs dealt Grove City a season-ending setback. Winning pitcher Dillon Tabar, in 6 stanzas, scattered 6 hits, fanned 5 and walked 2. He also hammered a 2-run home run and doubled. Also for MASH (11-3, 15-5), Dan Webster and Ben Lowmaster both singled and doubled. Grove City starter Jim McConnell worked 2 1/3 innings and allowed 5 runs on 4 hits, walked 3 and whiffed 3. Garrett Molloy singled and doubled and Tyler Moser added 2 hits for Grove City (7-7, 9-11). Regarding seniors Molloy, Moser, Ryan Devine, Derek Forese, Mark Revesz and Bobby Johnston, veteran Eagles’ mentor Pat Forese summarized, “I think I’m more disappointed for them (in not qualifying for the postseason) than they are, but we just had one of those tough-luck seasons.
