BASEBALL
ä Grove City 15, Commodore Perry 0 (4 inn.) — At Grove City Memorial Park, the Eagles (6-6 District 10 Region 4-AAA, 8-10 overall) kept their flickering playoff hopes alive with the win over the Panthers (3-8 in Region 4-AAA).
Grove City is currently tied for 3rd place in the region with Franklin (6-6) and Slippery Rock (6-6) behind Hickory (12-0) and Meadville (10-2). Slippery Rock plays Oil City and Titusville next week; Grove City has Titusville and Meadville, and Franklin still has Commodore Perry and Hickory left on the schedule.
The hosts jumped out to a 4-0 first-inning lead on the strength of back-to-back home runs from Garrett Molloy and Garrett Herald. Molloy’s blast also scored Ryan Devine, who doubled. Grove City tacked on 6 more tallies in the 2nd on a 2-run Casey Shay round-tripper and three CP miscues. Two more runs crossed the plate in the 3rd, and the final 3 runs scored in the 4th with 1 out.
