BOYS TRACK & FIELD
δ Wilmington 94, West Middlesex 56 At West Middlesex, a pair of unbeatens clashed in the regular-season finalι for both, and the Greyhounds topped the Big Reds (10-1) en route to the Region 1 crown.
Luke Yohman led Wilmington by winning the 110 (16.70) and 300 hurdles (42.10) and running the lead leg on both the 400- (47.10) and 1600-meter (3:32.80) relays.
Mike Ryan (3200 and 3200 relay leg) and Matt Lawhead (800 and 1600) led West Middlesex.
δ Hickory 103, Sharon 47 At Hornet Stadium, Hermitage, the Hornets stung Sharon, led by distance aces Mike Boardman (1600-meter run, mile-relay leg) and John Fischer (3200-meter run, 4x8 leg) and thrower Bob Saltsgiver (shot, disc).
Jacques Moss (triple jump, 400-meter dash) was Sharons lone double-winner.
δ Sharpsville 122, Farrell 16; Sharpsville 92, Kennedy Catholic 48 At Sharpsville, Bill Marstellar and DaMarco Alberty led the Blue Devils past KC and the Steelers.
Marstellar won the 400 (56.15), pole vault (10-0) and was part of the winning 1600 relay team (4:02). Alberty copped the 100 (11.18) and 200 (24.92) and was part of the 400 relay squad that clocked in at 47.98.
Jones led Farrell by winning the long (15-11 3/4) and triple (34-6 3/4) jumps.
KCs Chris Staten and Ben Goclano were double-event winners. Staten copped the shot (46-7) and discus (133-1 1/2) while Goclano placed 1st in the long (16-10 1/2) and triple (36-0) jumps.
δ Slippery Rock 85, Grove City 65 At Slippery Rock, the host Rockets rout was fueled by Ian Campbell (100, triple and high jumps), Jack Cravener (400-meter dash, mile-relay leg), and Ethan Geisler (high, intermediate hurdles, distance-relay leg). Campbell high-jumped 6-4 and triple-jumped 41-6 1/4.
For Grove City, Dustin Spencer (200-meter dash, long jump) and Greg Reiber (shot, disc), as well as distance ace Tom Bollinger (1600- 3200-meter runs) were the pacesetters.
δ George Junior Republic 83 1/2, Greenville 66 1/2 At Crowther Track, Greenville, the visiting Tigers triumphed, led by Chris Featherstone (400, sprint- and mile-relay legs), thrower Mitchell (shot, disc), sprinters Miller (200-meter dash, 4x4 relay leg) and Banks (100-meter dash, sprint-relay leg), and versatile Rodriguez (long jump, 4x1 relay leg). Also, Rupert rifled the javelin 177 feet, 8 inches.
Eddie Summerlin (800-, 1600-meter runs led Greenville, while Hilton had a hand in the Trojans trimphant 4x8 relay team and also won the open 3200-meter run.
δ Mercer 90, Lakeview 60 At Stoneboro, the visiting Mustangs stampeded their way to a win, led by Bobby Brannon (shot, disc), Mike Sherman (100, 200, sprint-relay leg), and middle-distance ace Ethan Isoldi (800, 4x4 relay leg).
Cory Rodgers (distance-relay leg, 1600-meter run) led Lakeview (6-5).
GIRLS TRACK & FIELD
δ West Middlesex 92, Wilmington 58 At West Middlesex, the host Ms. Reds (5-1, 9-2) rolled, led by the middle- and long-distance contingent of Kelli Weatherby, Lauren Shingledecker, Morgan Swartz Karen Willey and Jessica Bittler, as well as Miranda Negrea, who swept the long and triple jumps and added a win in the 400-meter dash.
For Wilmington, Knight notched a sweep of the 100- and 200-meter dashes, while Lady Hounds high-hurdler Hiers also contributed a leg to Wilmingtons winning sprint-relay quartet.
δ Hickory 96, Sharon 52 At Hornet Stadium, Hermitage, the host Hornettes handled their rivals, led by Emily Woods (shot, disc), sprinter LeAnn Devine, who copped the 200-meter dash and lent legs to the sprint- and mile-relay teams, and Marie McBride, who swept the long and triple jumps.
Jessica McSherry swept the 800- and 1600-meter runs for Sharon, but was the Lady Tigers lone multiple-winner.
δ Lakeview 81, Mercer 69 At Stoneboro, coach Greg Slatcoffs Lady Sailors (6-0, 10-1) captured the District 10 Region 1 title.
Ashley Lewis led Lakeview by winning the high (15.70) and intermediate (48.00) hurdles and was part of foursomes that captured the 4x1 (53.50) and 4x4 (4:44.40) relays. Eden Slater ran on the winning 1600 and 3200 relay teams and also took 1st in the 800 (2:33.10).
Claire Creasy (400-meter dash, pole vault), Jordyn Piepenhagen (shot put, discus) and Christine Sagulla (long, triple jumps) led Mercer.
δ Sharpsville 113, Farrell 19; Sharpsville 77, Kennedy Catholic 58 At Sharpsville, Kayleigh Nashtock led the Blue Darlings to a pair of victories.
Nashtock earned 1st in the 100 (13.20) and 400 (1:04.03) and ran on the victorious 400 (57.10) and 1600 (5:45) relay teams.
Farrells top performer was Kaveeda Myers, who won the shot put (32-9 1/4) and discus (80-7 1/2).
KCs Katie Cianci and Ashley Kirkpatrick were double-event winners. Cianci won the 400 (1:03.08) and 800 (2:50) while Kirkpatrick captured the shot (27-9) and discus (76-11).
δ Slippery Rock 81, Grove City 69 At Slippery Rock, the host Lady Rockets recorded their 3rd consecutive undefeated Region 2 dual-meet championship season.
Elissa McCune (100-meter dash, intermediate hurdles), Angela Shaffer (high hurdles, high jump), and versatile Amyx (long, triple jumps, pole vault) fueled the Lady Rockets, as did Mel Prelec (javelin, sprint-relay leg).
For Grove City, Kristy Woods (shot, disc), Hana Casalnova (400-, 800-meter runs), Sara Chuzie (1600, 3200-meter runs) and Megan DeGraaf (pole vault, distance-relay leg) led the visiting Lady Eagles.
BASEBALL
δ Sharon 8, Mercer 2 At Sharon, Alex Senak, Cory Johnson and Gary Revale belted home runs as the Tigers improved to 10-0 in the region and 13-0 overall. Senak and Johnson had solo shots while Revale ripped a 2-run blast.
Johnson was 4-for-4 with a triple and 2 singles and Nick Juranovich ripped an RBI-double. Zach Anderson earned the win. He struck out 5, walked 3 and allowed 2 runs on 7 hits in 5 innings of work.
Cody Frey pitched 6 frames for Mercer. He fanned 1, walked 5 and gave up all 8 runs on 9 hits. Ian Dunn singled and tripled for the Mustangs.
δ Sharpsville 10, Jamestown 1 At South Py, freshman Jon Wilson twirled a complete-game 4-hitter for the host Blue Devils (5-5). Wilson whiffed 7.
Also, Torin Karsonovich cranked a 2-run dobule, Matt Totin tattooed a run-scoring two-bagger, Casey Dumars delivered a 2-run single, and ryan Lindberg lent a pair of hits while Sean Haywood hammered an RBI-single.
Losing Muskies moundsman David Richter was charged with 4 runs on only 2 hits in 2 1/3 innings. Also, Ethan Adams drilled a double in defeat.
SOFTBALL
δ Sharon 11, Hickory 0 (5 inn.) At Wengler Field, Julie Norris notched the mound win and also led the Lady Tigers offense. Norris, in 5 frames, whiffed 2, walked none and surrendered 3 hits, 2 by Jonna Vellente. Also, Norris drilled a double and drove in 3 runs.
Also for Sharon (8-6), Brittanie Vukovich singled and hammered a 2-run homer while driving in 3 runs, Ellen Anderson, Sam Vallely and Emily Williams stroked 2 hits apiece, and Kelsey Horvath drilled a double.
Starting pitcher Stephanie Roshala was reached for a walk, 6 hits and 6 runs, while reliever Logan Rock fanned 4 and allowed 7 hits and 5 runs.
δ Hubbard 12, Brookfield 2 (6 inn.) At Hubbard, the host Lady Eagles remained in a 1st-place Trumbull Athletic Conference tie with Champion, erasing a 2-1 5th-inning deficit.
Brookfield committed 9 miscues and Hubbard hammered 15 hits.
Hubbard righty Gabby Flynn fired a 1-hitter Stephanie Van Meters double struck out 9 and walked only 1. Also for Hubbard (11-1), Kara Elgelsky had 3 hits including 2 doubles; Jen Taffe singled and doubled; Karrie Durina singled and tripled; Jessica Lunt lent 3 hits, and Megan Schultz and Abby DeLuco each plated a pair of runs.
Right-hander Corin Miller mustered 8 strikeouts and did not walk a hitter for Brookfield (0-12, 4-12).
΄΄ On Monday, Brookfield was blanked 4-0 by Newton Falls Blaine Chapman, who tossed a 17-strikeout no-hitter.
VOLLEYBALL
