The District 10 Class AA Singles Tennis Championship began on Saturday morning at the Pennbriar Athletic Club in Erie.
The title match is scheduled for 3:30 p.m. Monday.
No local results were reported to The Herald, either by coaches or via fax. Also, no results were posted on either the District 10 or Pennbriar web sites.
TRACK & FIELD
The West Middlesex High boys team finished 3rd overall at Saturday’s Oil City Invitational with 54 points.
Adam Shrawder placed 1st in the 800 (2:00) and Mark Saylor took 1st in the long jump (20-5) and 2nd in the pole vault (13 feet).
Matt Lawhead earned 2nd-place finishes in the 1600- (4:37.43) and 3200-meter (10:26.50) runs.
WM’s 3200 relay team, comprised of Colby Howe, Jon Jancso and Jason and Kyle Devlin, placed 2nd with a time of 9:04.78.
Kyle Devlin also took 5th in the 3200 (11:00.78).
A limited amount of girls competed in the event for coach Bob Morris due to the prom.
Karen Willey, Lauren Shingledecker, Morgan Swartz and Kayla Shacklock teamed up to take 3rd in the 3200-meter relay (10:49.80).
Willey was 3rd in the 800 (2:31.11) and Swartz placed 3rd in the 3200 (12:32.48).
ä Kennedy Catholic’s Katie Cianci defended her Oil City title in the 800 with a time of 2:22.30. She was also 2nd in the 400 (1:02.20).
KC’s 3200-meter relay team of Bethany Kifer, Nicole Joseph, Kaitlyn Shober and Julia Hosack was 5th (12:52). The 1600 relay squad also placed 5th in 4:39.60. That team was Kayla Burdick, Kifer, Cianci and Hosack.
Ashley Kirkpatrick took 6th in the discus. The distance was not reported.
For the KC boys, Chris Staten placed 2nd in the javelin and 3rd in the shot put. No distances were submitted.
Also, the 1600-meter relay team of Joel Suarez, Colby Connely, Brandon Morris and Joe Benes finished 5th place, clocking in at 4:22.
ä The Wilmington High boys squad won the Class AA team title Friday night at the annual Baldwin Invitational.
The Greyhounds of veteran coach J.R. McFarland garnered 27 points to outdistance Aliquippa, which ended with 18.
For Wilmington, long-jumper Chris Burns and javelin-thrower Ryan Bell both placed 3rd. Burns soared 22-6, while Bell threw 194-2. In addition, the 4x1 relay quartet of Forrest Minteer, Burns and his brother Derrick and Nick Riggall also ended 3rd via a 43.32 clocking, McFarland reported.
In additon, returning PIAA Championships qualifier Paul Yohman finished 4th in the shot put and 5th in the discus with respective tosses of 52-4 and 153-4.
McFarland reported host Baldwin won the Class AAA boys team title at the prestigious event, which attracted between 50 and 60 teams.
ä Grove City’s Kristy Woods captured the shot put title and set a school record at the Baldin Invite on Friday.
Woods’ throw of 45 feet broke her own school record (43-9 3/4) set earlier this season at New Wilmington.
Woods also placed 2nd in the discus with a throw of 129 feet, 7 inches.
No other results were reported to The Herald.
