On April 30, the Mercer County USBC Bowling Association held their annual meeting at the Elks Club in Sharon. The highlight of the evening was the presentation of monetary gifts to two local youth organizations and a scholarship to a deserving youth bowler.

The Association presented a $200 gift to the Greater Mercer County Youth Bowling Association and a $125 gift to the Stars of Tomorrow youth tournament that is sponsored by Celebrity Bowl. Mackenzie Sherbondy was the recipient of the $500 youth scholarship.

The “state of bowling” for Mercer County was also reviewed. The Association certified 56 regular leagues and one senior league with 1405 members paid through those leagues.

Major awards as of April 30 included the following: 26 300s, six 800 series and 43 11-in-a-rows.

ä Unofficial results of the Mercer County Women’s USBC team tournament that was held April 26-27 at Reynolds Lanes are as follows: (1) Reynolds Lanes (2726). Team members are Tanya Morris, Ashleigh Arnold, Valorie Filer and Missy Furmanek.

Other top finishers include: (2) The Through Togethers (2690), (3) Osborne’s Funeral Home (2604), (4) Air Force One (2592), and (5) Dynomite (2573).

The low to cash is 2573.

First place in the senior division went to Lee’s Senior Team with 2510. Team members are Barbara Battyanyi, Bonnie Gray, Chris Rowe and Lee Bodien.

The low to cash in the senior division is 2369.

High game awards for each lane are as follows: Kim Marriotti (226), Furmanek (248), Sue Dortin (241), Esther Hays (211), Jen Snider (227), Vanessa Summerville (232, 233), Leonor Davis (251), Brittany Perfilio (188), Stefanie Quinlan (217).

Furmanek has the highest scratch series at 657, while a 251 by Davis is the high scratch game.

The tourney concludes this week with the singles and doubles event.

ä On Sunday, May 18, Sunset Lanes is hosting their 2nd annual King of the Hill eliminator sweeper. The event begins at 1 p.m. and is sponsored by Budweiser. The entry fee is $80 and 1st place is estimated at $1200 based on 60 entries.

This is a scratch tournament and the format will be as follows. Participants will bowl four games across four pair of lanes. After four games, the field will be cut in half. Participants will bowl two more games and the field will be cut in half again. This will continue until the field is cut to four bowlers. The final four bowl-ers will then bowl a stepladder type final to determine the winner.
