Keelings to mark local Nazarene celebration
SHARPSVILLE — The Keelings will sing at the 10:45 a.m. service Sunday in Sharpsville Church of the Nazarene, 804 Ridge Ave.
The service will celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Church of the Nazarene denomination. There will be 1.7 million Nazarenes in 200,000 congregations and in 151 world areas taking part in the celebration.
Greater Mount Zion celebrating Women’s Day
FARRELL — The annual Women’s Day service will be Sunday in Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ, 1825 Roemer Blvd.
Evangelist Mae Herron Walker of Akron, Ohio, will be featured at the 11 a.m. service. The member of Unity Holiness Ministries Church of God in Christ serves as Sunday school superintendent and elect-lady of the evangelist department.
“Holy Women Taking Their Ministry to a New Level with Christ in Charge” will be the day’s theme. Women’s attire for the day is white.
Apostolate of Fatima set at Fatima-St. Ann’s
FARRELL — World Apostolate of Fatima, Mercer County Chapter of the Blue Army, will meet at 1:30 p.m. Sunday in the hall of Our Lady of Fatima–St. Ann Church, 601 Roemer Blvd.

Community Baptist slates pre-anniversary service
FARRELL — A pre-anniversary service is set for 4 p.m. Sunday in Community Missionary Baptist Church, 1013 Emerson Ave.
The Rev. Aquanetta Osbourne, pastor of Greater Morris Chapel Church, will be guest along with her choir and congregation. “Upon This Rock I Will Build My Church,” from Matthew 16:18, will be theme for the 62nd church anniversary.
Second Baptist Church hosting choruses
SHARPSVILLE — A pair of choruses will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday in Second Baptist Church, 10 Walnut St.
The Warren (Ohio) Community Male Chorus and the male chorus of Mount Olive Baptist Church in Masury will sing.
New Life Covenant set for prayer praise, worship
SHARON — A time of prayer praise and worship is set for 5 p.m. Sunday in New Life Covenant Church, 807 Spruce Ave.
“War Cry” will be the theme, taken from Matthew 11:12, “And from the days of John the Baptist until now the kingdom of heaven suffereth violence and the violent take it by force.”

Westminster services to include peacemaker
NEW WILMINGTON — Westminster College in New Wilmington will host an International Peacemaker from Sudan Presbyterian Evangelical Church during vespers on World Communion at 7 p.m. Sunday and at chapel worship at 11:40 a.m. Monday, both in Wallace Memorial Chapel on campus.
Rev. Yousif Matar Kodi will speak about peace and justice issues from the perspective of the Presbyterian Church in the Sudan.
Altar Rosary members to recite Rosary, meet
FARRELL — To celebrate the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary, Altar Rosary Society members of Our Lady of Fatima–St. Ann Church will recite the Rosary at 8 a.m. before 8:30 a.m. Mass Tuesday in the chapel of Monsignor Geno J. Monti School chapel, 1225 Union St. Monsignor Salvatore P. Mitchell will be celebrant.

Community Baptist celebrating 62nd year
FARRELL — Community Missionary Baptist Church’s 62nd anniversary celebration will feature guest speakers at 7 p.m. Tuesday through Oct. 10 in the church at 1013 Emerson Ave.
The Rev. Geraldine Williams, pastor of Ruth African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church, Sharon, will speak Tuesday; Rev. Richard L. Roberts, pastor of Valley Baptist Church, Farrell, Wednesday; Rev. Clevon Dukes, pastor of New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Farrell, Thursday; and Rev. Brian K. Johnson, pastor of New Light Missionary Baptist Church, Sharon, Oct. 10.
The celebration will climax at 4 p.m. Oct. 12 with Rev. Walter Gillespie, pastor of Faith Temple Baptist Church, Campbell, Ohio, speaking.
First Baptist to hold revival, mark 107th year
FARRELL — A fall revival is scheduled for 7 p.m. Wednesday through Oct. 10 in First Baptist Church, 1120 Darr Ave.
The Rev. Michael H. Harrison, pastor of Union Baptist Church in Youngstown, will be guest evangelist. Choirs from various churches will sing.
The host church’s 107th anniversary will be celebrated Oct. 12.

Tibetan monks to visit Westminster College
NEW WILMINGTON — A group of Tibetan monks from the Gaden Shartse Monastery will visit Oct. 13 through 16 in McKelvey Campus Center’s Witherspoon Lakeview Room on the campus of Westminster College.
Sponsored by the Heinz Lectures in Religion, all events are free to the public.
The monks will speak on “Serene Mind, Compassionate Heart” at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and 15. The Buddhadharma or teachings of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, also will be discussed. They also will answer questions.
The monks will demonstrate the ancient healing arts of Tibet at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 14. Audience members, especially those suffering from ailments, are invited to participate. Ceremonial dissolution of a sand mandala is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Oct. 16.
Book discussion of ‘The Shack’ set at St. Paul’s
HERMITAGE — Women of all ages are invited to read and discuss “The Shack” by William Paul Young in St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave. The novel has sold more than 2 million copies to become the best-selling religion book of the past year, according to Religion News Service. The book has many critics as well who claim the book’s portrayal of God is unbiblical.
The book is available in most bookstores and Christian stores. The Rev. Julia Williamson will lead a discussion at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 19 in the church. Refreshments will be served.

Rudges speak in Europe, plan world outreach
HERMITAGE — Bill and BJ Rudge of Bill Rudge Ministries are speaking at a military base in Germany during a trip to Europe to participate in the 90th anniversary commemoration and dedication of the Sgt. York Historic Trail and Memorial in France.
The local ministry has been a supporter of the tribute to Sgt. York, an American soldier whose Christian testimony was part of his story as a hero in World War I.
Bill Rudge and his wife Karen are scheduled to return to Germany later this year for his fourth trip to Germany to speak at military bases and churches.
Because of increasing speaking invitations, Rudge is planning his third world outreach to multiple foreign countries, including India, Pakistan, Philippines, Nigeria and Kenya.
’07 Farrell grad to serve Mormon mission in Italy
FARRELL — Adam Brooks of Farrell has been called to serve a two-year mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Italy Milan Mission. He will report to the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, on Oct. 15.
His assignment came from President Thomas S. Monson, president of the 13-million member church headquartered in Salt Lake City. Missionaries serve voluntarily and are not paid for their services.
Brooks, a son of Gary and Anna Brooks, graduated from Farrell Area High School in 2007. He is a member of the Sharon Branch of the church, where he also attended four years of seminary while in high school. He will continue his education at Brigham Young University following completion of his missionary service.
