Central Christian Church ready for ‘Island Fun’
HERMITAGE — Well-known trumpeter Tom Hunt, a member of West Middlesex Presbyterian Church, will be the main event for “Island Fun” musical outreach to the public at 6 p.m. Sept. 6 in Central Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 218 Meadowbrook Road.
The program will include tiki torches and a festive tropical tent, with food and fellowship. Door prizes, Chinese auction and a raffle are also planned.
“Soul Repair” quartet will also be presenting special secular and sacred music. Appetizers begin at 6 p.m.; and dinner, 7 p.m. Tickets are $12.50 per person. Reservations are needed by Saturday. Tickets or info: 724-347-1703.
Covenant Presbyterian announces time changes
SHARON — Covenant Presbyterian Church, 263 E. State St., has changed its Sunday service times.
Sunday school for all ages will be at 9 a.m.; coffee and doughnut time, 10 a.m.; and worship, 10:30 a.m.

First Baptist celebrating Missionary Sunday
FARRELL — Missionary Sunday will be observed at 11 a.m. Sunday in First Baptist Church, 1120 Darr Ave. “Carrying Out the Mission that the Lord God Gave You” will be the topic.
Tammy Hines of Warren, Ohio, will speak. The Trumbull County employee and alumna of Warren G. Harding High School is a member of Believers Christian Church. She helps with a summer outreach program at Niles (Ohio) Christian Assembly.
She and her husband work with young adult addicts who are going into a rehabilitation center or have just returned from one.
Their mission is based on Psalm 72:12, “For he will deliver the needy who cry out, the afflicted who have no one to help.”
Greater Morris marking Missionary Sunday
FARRELL — Missionary Sunday will be observed at 11 a.m. Sunday in Greater Morris Chapel African Methodist Episcopal Church, 926 Darr Ave.
Crystal Johnson, wife of Pastor Charles Johnson Jr. of Cedar Avenue Church of God, Sharon, will speak. Charlotte Somerest will preside.
Second Baptist Church marking Missionary Day
SHARPSVILLE — Missionary Day will be celebrated at 11:15 a.m.. Sunday in Second Baptist Church, 10 Walnut St.
Minister Calvin Gordon will speak.
Church Women United sets Human Rights event
FARRELL — Church Women United of the Shenango Valley will hold its annual Human Rights Day service from 1 to 3 p.m. Sept. 5 in Zion Daily Bread Restaurant, 841 Sharon-New Castle Road.
Minister Michelle Askerneese of Cedar Avenue Church of God in Sharon will talk about her mission trip to New Orleans to serve Katrina victims. Ellen Pope will show slides from her trip to aid Katrina victims.
Hymn Book Choir of Greater Mount Zion Church of God in Christ in Farrell will sing. An offering will be received.
Mazzants in concert in Sandy Lake Alliance
SANDY LAKE — Amos and Cookie Mazzant of Ellwood City will give a concert at 7 p.m. Sept. 6 in Sandy Lake Alliance Church, 5319 Franklin St.
The Mazzants have been in Christian music ministry since 1978. They use a variety of instruments in performing traditional music, hymns and southern gospel.
They also will be at the church for its annual “Family & Friends Day” starting at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7, with a concert at 10:30 a.m. A potluck lunch will be served at noon.

Christ Lutheran Church sets schedule changes
SHARON — Christ Lutheran Church, 396 Buhl Blvd., will return to its fall-winter worship times Sept. 7.
Services will return to 8:30 and 11 a.m. that day. The annual church picnic will be at noon Sept. 7.
Sunday school also will resume at 9:45 a.m. with a Rally Day kickoff. Classes are available for those 4 and older, with adult classes starting at 9:45 a.m. Sept. 14.
St. John’s Lutheran plans schedule changes
DELAWARE TOWNSHIP — St. John’s Lutheran Church, 10 Beil Hill Road, will return to its customary service times starting Sept. 7.
Sunday church school will be at 9 a.m. and worship with Holy Communion at 10 a.m.
St. Paul’s UCC to resume Sunday school
HERMITAGE — St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, 159 Todd Ave., will resume its Sunday school for all ages at 9:30 a.m. Sept. 7. Refreshments will be at 10:30 a.m. and worship service at 11 a.m.
The service that day will feature the dedication of new Bibles for the Sunday school, followed by a pizza luncheon at noon. Everyone is invited to wear red clothing.
First Presbyterian Church changes worship times
SHARPSVILLE — First Presbyterian Church, 603 W. Ridge Ave., will change its Sunday worship times.
Worship service, with nursery available, will be at 11 a.m. starting Sept. 7.
“Fun in the Son” Sunday school for ages 3 through sixth grade will be at 9 a.m.; Sunday school classes for all other ages, 9:30 a.m.; and coffee fellowship at noon, all starting Sept. 14.
Youth group for seventh- through 12th-graders is Sunday evenings; women’s Bible study, 7 p.m. Tuesdays; and choir rehearsal, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays, with new members welcome.

Lebanon Presbyterian presents ‘Glory Bound’
LACKAWANNOCK TOWNSHIP — “Glory Bound: High Places and Valleys” will be presented at 7 p.m. Sept. 13 in Lebanon Presbyterian Church, 2090 Mercer-West Middlesex Road (Route 318).
WM Presbyterian to host Sunday school open house
WEST MIDDLESEX — A Sunday school open house is planned for 2 to 4 p.m. Sept. 14 in West Middlesex Presbyterian Church, 3082 Main St.
Emmanuel Christian set for ‘Answers in Genesis’
NEW VERNON TOWNSHIP — Mike Riddle will present “Answers in Genesis” Sept. 19 through 21 in Emmanuel Christian Church, 4495 Greenville-Sandy Lake Road (Route 358). Admission is free but seating is limited.
“Do You Have a Biblical Worldview?” will be Sept. 19.
Two morning sessions Sept. 20 will be directed toward educators and parents regarding what can legally be taught in schools. Afternoon and evening sessions will cover creation apologetics, strategic evangelism, cloning and stem cells, and fossils and the history of the world.
Morning sessions Sept. 21 will include “Thinking Biblically About Dinosaurs” and “Creation to the Cross.”
Free child care will be available for those 10 and younger. Preregistration is needed for child care and meal planning for Sept. 20; free lunch and dinner will be provided.
