• An overloaded washing machine caused smoke to fill the third floor of Livingston Hall at Thiel College at 5:40 p.m. Sunday. Lt. Mike Cadman cut his thumb while taking apart the machine but didn’t need medical treatment, Chief Steve Thompson said.

Firefighters used fans to ventilate the building and damage was limited to the washing machine, he said.

Hempfield Township

• James Hribar, 19, Greenville, and a 17-year-old Hempfield Township girl were cited for underage drinking at 12:30 a.m. Sunday at a Mercer Road home, police said.

• Someone stole $500 from a Sugar Grove Township home Friday night, police said.

Hermitage

• William D. Koehler, 28, of 380 S. Irvine Ave., Sharon, has been charged with burglary, theft, possessing instruments of crime and conspiracy to commit those charges for participating in the Sept. 15 theft of copper wire from a construction trailer at the building site of Grace Community Chapel, 4075 Lamor Road, police said. Koehler cut the locks off the trailer, and he and Randy R. Law, 31, of 1884 Pine Hollow Blvd., Hermitage, loaded the $2,000 worth of wire and sold it at a recycling center in Ohio for $584, police said. Law previously was charged with burglary, theft, conspiracy and possessing instruments of crime.

• Aletha A. Laux, 32, of 336 Ohio St., Sharon, has been charged with possession of marijuana for having the drug on her window weather stripping, floor and seat of her vehicle when she was stopped at 7:24 a.m. Sept. 27 for having tinted windows on Rombold Road.

• Antuan T. Jackson, 22, of 329 E. Connelly Blvd., Sharon, was charged with harassment at about 8:45 p.m. Friday after an incident in his home, police said.

SW Mercer County Regional

• At about 2:45 p.m. Saturday, Douglas Fairbanks Jacobs, 36, of 618 Hamilton Ave., Farrell, was charged with possession of a controlled substance for having nine loose pills while being picked up on a warrant in the 600 block of Hamilton, police said.

• Jose A. Santiago, 45, of 693 King St., Sharon, has been charged with possession of marijuana for having the drug in a ceiling compartment of his vehicle when he was stopped for failing to lower his high beams at 1:10 a.m. Sept. 26 on Route 60, Shenango Township, police said.
