Westminster names its new president

NEW WILMINGTON

Westminster College in New Wilmington has selected Dr. Richard H. Dorman to serve as its 14th president. He currently is vice president for institutional advancement at Otterbein College in Westerville, Ohio.

The announcement came after a special meeting of Westminster’s Board of Trustees.

Dorman, a 54-year-old New York state native who has spent many years in Pennsylvania, is expected to assume leadership of Westminster on July 1, when President R. Thomas Williamson steps down.

Williamson has led Westminster since 1997 and announced his retirement plans last February.

Dorman has served since 1996 as vice president for institutional advancement at Otterbein. He was responsible for all external affairs and oversaw the most successful fundraising years in the college’s history.

Otterbein completed a $35-million comprehensive capital campaign and a number of renovation and capital projects during his tenure.

He served from 1994 through 1996 as assistant vice president for development and director of health sciences development from 1990 through 1994 at the University of Louisville after four years as an executive with the Penn State Alumni Association.

Dorman earned a bachelor of music degree in music education in 1975 from Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa. He earned a master’s degree in counseling and college student personnel services and a doctor of higher education administration degree from Pennsylvania State University.

A member and elder in the Presbyterian Church (USA), Dorman is active in the community having served in leadership positions with a number of civic, service and educational organizations. He has made presentations at national conferences on institutional advancement, student recruitment and alumni-admissions partnerships, fundraising and board relationships.

Dorman’s wife of 29 years, Beverly Dorman, is a registered nurse. They have a son, Daniel, 23; and a daughter, Kelly, 21.
