UPDATE: Pulaski woman gets hard time for smuggling pills

MERCER COUNTY

A Pulaski woman was taken out of a courtroom in tears Tuesday after being sentenced to up to five years for trying to smuggle drugs into the jail.

Amanda Isaacks, 31, of 1053 Maple Lane, was sentenced to 11/2 to five years behind bars for possession with intent to deliver by Common Pleas President Judge Francis J. Fornelli.

“I note this is Ms. Isaacks’ first offense, but she was smuggling a smorgasbord of pills into Mercer County Jail,” he said. There is no worse place to try and move drugs into than among the inmate population, he said, so he sentenced her in the aggravated range.

“We will not tolerate smuggling drugs into the jail,” Fornelli said.

Ms. Isaacks and a man sitting to watch her sentencing wept when Fornelli imposed the jail term. Her defense attorney, Randall Hetrick, had noted she had two children, ages 9 and 10.

Ms. Isaacks had apologized for the crime. She had smuggled the pills for a boyfriend, which she admitted was wrong.
