A Sharon woman was charged Monday with two counts of endangering the welfare of children after a police search during which the kids were found to have been taken by their grandfather, police said.

Police were called at 7:39 p.m. Saturday to the home of Nastusha L. Schuller, 26, of 476 North St., with a report that her children, a 2-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl, were missing. The kids had last been seen an hour earlier, police said.

Police said they called firefighters and off-duty police to search the neighborhood.

At 9:07 p.m., police were notified that the children might be at Ms. Schuller’s father’s home in Mercer. State police confirmed the kids were there, police said.

Ms. Schuller had passed out from drinking and the grandfather found the children in the street, police said. He took the kids, apparently without leaving a note of what he had done, police said.

Police said Tuesday they did not know who has custody of the children.

Mercer County Children and Youth Services has been notified.

Police said they requested a state police helicopter and search dog, but the children were found before they were needed.

Ms. Schuller was arraigned Tuesday by District Judge James E. McMahon, Sharon, and released on her own recognizance. Her preliminary hearing was set for 10:45 a.m. July 15.
