Volant man accused of lewd behavior in park

PORTERSVILLE — A Volant man was arrested Thursday in Moraine State Park, Butler County, as part of an undercover operation to catch people performing sexual acts in the park.

Dennis J. Altman, 57, was charged with open lewdness and attempted indecent assault after exposing himself to an undercover ranger in a wooded area near the Bear Run boat launch, said Rick Carson, ranger supervisor.

Rangers from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources are conducting undercover operations to deter such activities, which were recently reported by other park visitors, Carson said Monday.

“We’re trying to put a stop to it,” he said.

This is the time of year when many families with young children visit the park and several adults have come across men on wooded trails carrying on lewd behavior, Carson said.

Also arrested Thursday for a similar incident in the park was Howard H. Speicher, 86, of Fombell, Pa. He was charged with open lewdness and indecent exposure.

Ex-city boss charged with theft, released

HERMITAGE — Former Hermitage Street Department Superintendent Keith A. Klamer was arraigned Monday on a charge of theft for allegedly stealing $5,590 from the city between October 2004 and June 2007.

Klamer, 60, of 7206 Lamor Road, Hermitage, was released by District Judge Ronald E. Antos, Farrell, after posting bond. His preliminary hearing was set for 1:15 p.m. July 9.

The city will install frontage drain pipe for properties along city streets if the property owners are willing to pay for the pipe. Police said Klamer had about a dozen residents make out the checks to him, or give him cash, and he would keep the money, police said.

Klamer, who retired in February, also had an employee take scrap metal from the city garage to be recycled, and kept the proceeds, police said.

Oxycontin sale charges heading to Mercer court

HERMITAGE — A Farrell man will be facing in court charges that he sold the prescription pain killer Oxycontin to an informant working with police.

Anthony V. Green Sr., 50, of 1106 Beechwood Ave., was charged with four counts each of delivery and possession of Oxycontin and criminal use of a cellular telephone, and one count of conspiracy to commit delivery.
