Authorities on Tuesday released the names of the drivers involved in a fatal crash Sunday in Pymatuning Township.
Douglas H. “Robert” Ecker, 84, of Kinsman, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene at 2:12 p.m. by Mercer County Deputy Coroner John Libonati. He died from injuries sustained in the crash, according to a press release from Mercer County Coroner J. Bradley McGonigle III.
Ecker was crossing state Route 18 at Rutledge Road around 1:30 p.m. when his BMW sedan was hit by a Chevrolet Camaro headed south on 18 driven by Jeremy Ferrell, 33, of 26th Street, Pymatuning Township, Patrolman Greg Hopkins said.
Ferrell reported minor injuries and was believed to have been taken to a hospital by a relative, Hopkins said.
No charges have been filed, but the crash, which closed all four lanes until 6 p.m. Sunday, remains under investigation. Hopkins wouldn’t say if police believe Ferrell was speeding.
Information about Ecker wasn’t released until Tuesday because police weren’t able to contact his family until that morning. The power was out at their Kinsman home, which couldn’t receive phone calls, Hopkins said.
Police also said they didn’t want to release Ferrell’s name until they had spoken with Ecker’s family.
