A man apparently made his way up and down U.S. Route 19 Friday and Saturday, breaking into three businesses along the road and stealing cash and cigarettes, state police said.
The spree started at about 5 a.m. Friday at Joe’s Gas Station and Garage in Springfield Township, where the man threw a brick in the window, entered the business and stole cartons of cigarettes.
The Dairy Queen on Route 19 in East Lackawannock Township was broken into using a cement block about 40 minutes later and money was taken from the cash drawers there, police said.
About 24 hours later, at about 4 a.m. Saturday, he used another cement block to break into Book’s Market on Route 19 in Scott Township, Lawrence County. Once inside, he took several packs of cigarettes and was seen running south from the parking lot.
Police didn’t say the incidents were related but the same description of a man in his 20s or 30s wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and jeans was listed in each report.
State police in Lawrence and Mercer counties are investigating and are seeking information. People are asked to call 724-662-6162 or 724-598-2211 if they know anything about the crimes.
