A 24-year-old Kinsman man was indicted by a Trumbull County jury last week on charges he repeatedly raped a Masury girl when she was between 3 and 9 years old.
The charges against James Edison, of 8302 Main St., Kinsman, formerly of Syme Street, Masury, date back 12 years, police said. The mother of the now 15-year-old girl told police Edison raped her daughter repeatedly when he was between the ages of 12 and 18 when he lived in Masury, Brookfield police Chief Dan Faustino said.
The last incident occurred “around the time” Edison turned 18, the chief added. Since then, no sexual contact has taken place, Sean O’Brien, assistant county prosecutor said.
The alleged rapes weren’t reported to police until February, Faustino said. Edison was first questioned Feb. 16 about the rapes and charged several days later.
Two counts of raping a person younger than 13 and another count of attempted rape were held over Feb. 21 to the grand jury by Judge Ronald J. Rice, Eastern District Court, Brookfield.
Edison is in Trumbull County Jail after failing to post bond.
A pretrial is set for April 17 before Judge John M. Stuard in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court, Warren, Ohio.
