The lights are not out at Mercer County Republican Committee headquarters, just turned down while halogen upgrades are being installed.

Why halogen? Halogen allows one to see clearly those creatures that creep in the night hiding in dark and slimy places. The rift your reporter spoke of is just a long overdue housecleaning.

Chairman Bill Kirk believes in true Republican values: no convicted sex offenders in positions of influence over young or old Republicans, not supporting people who surf pornography and other offenses on government and county computers in their bids to become influential party members. And the most important party value of all; supporting Republican Party candidates in elections.

He supports the process of intra-party primary fights which many of us feel are necessary to produce the strongest candidate for the general elections. Compromising the party or its values or supporting candidates whose only links to the party’s vision are through the lenses of nepotism and friendships will never be tolerated by the strong leadership of the chairman.

His leadership style confirms my belief that any elected Democrat whether friend or foe, supports the Democrat agenda. Support of their candidates is an affront to the trust of loyal, believing Republican voters.

Finally to answer the charge that “we had people ready to follow, we had no leader,” I can only wonder why the person who was elected on a platform which stressed a personal history of distinguished and unblemished leadership did not rise to the occasion to do so.

I sit and wonder what forces prevented his actions.

As for me, I will never pretend to be a Republican just to get myself or my friends elected; I love my party and support the infighting if it leads to a purging of Rinos — Republican in name only.

My three young bi-racial children are being raised as God-fearing and God-loving Republicans. God Bless Bill Kirk and the Republican Party!
