In response to Lynn Saternow’s April 12 column, it is my opinion that Bishop Trautman got it right.
Mr. Saternow feels that the bishop of the Erie Diocese is “turning his back” on Mercyhurst College graduates because he will not attend graduation ceremonies next month. The bishop is upset with college administrators for having hosted pro-abortion candidate Hillary Clinton on campus a couple of weeks ago.
Abortion continues to be one of the evils of our society today and Catholic church leaders defend and support a person’s right to life from conception until natural death. Catholics are urged to support political candidates who have a true respect for human life at all stages.
Therefore, I believe the error in judgment was made by the Mercyhurst administration for hosting a pro-abortion speaker on campus. Readers can see a video clip of Bishop Trautman’s response to this issue on the diocesan Web site: www.eriercd.org
Mr. Saternow may disagree with Bishop Trautman’s decision but he’s out of line by stating in his column that it is time for the Erie Diocese to get a new bishop.
