PORT ORANGE, Fla. — Leonard Eugene “Gene” Weldon of Port Orange, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 29, 2008. He was 78.
Born on Oct. 23, 1930, in Sharon, Mr. Weldon was a son of Leonard F. and Mildred B. Thompson Weldon.
Gene relocated to Florida in 1967.
He was a founding member of Village United Methodist Church in North Lauderdale, Fla. He also belonged to Free and Accepted Masons’ former Lodge 150 in Sharon; was a treasurer and president of F.T.W.P. Local #58 Branch #1, Sharon; and was vice president of the western division F.T.W.P.
He served as city commissioner, vice mayor and police commissioner of North Lauderdale and retired in 1983 from Southern Bell after 35 years as a cable repairman/manager.
Gene served proudly in the U.S. Army Reserves.
He loved his country music, sports, his family and friends and was an avid collector. He will be dearly missed!
He is survived by: his beloved wife of 54 years, Joann; his children, Karen; Gregg and his wife Patricia; Brian and his wife Lisa; and Ken and his wife Diane Foster, all Florida.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John B. “Jack” Weldon of Sharon.
