WWII veteran worked 40 years at GATX
Sophie M. “Sally” Golaske of Brookfield died at 2:05 p.m. Wednesday (9-3-08) in Hospice House, Poland, Ohio, after an extended illness. She was 91.
Ms. Golaske was born April 17, 1917, in Castle Shannon, Pa., a daughter of Charles and Sophie (Perkowski) Golaski.
A 1935 graduate of Brookfield High School, Sally proudly went on to serve our country in the U.S. Army as a Medical Lab Tech 5 during World War II. Her decorations and citations include the American Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Following her military term, Sally worked for General American Transportation Corp.’s former Masury plant, retiring in 1982 after 40 years as a benefits supervisor.
She was a member of Church of the Sacred Heart, Sharon; GATX Retirees Club; and the Polish Arts Club, Youngstown.
In her spare time, she enjoyed reading history and traveling to Europe.
Survivors include: her sister, Victoria Peck, Alexandria, Va, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Stanley Golaske, Frank Gilliespie and Benjamin Glaske; and her sisters, Anne Healy, Mary Pichitino and Katherine Savidge.
As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests contributions can be made to the Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St, Youngstown 44512.

Burial: St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage, with full military honors.
