Wylie O. McFarland, 66 Tripplewood Drive, Coolspring Township, died at 5:40 a.m. Monday, Sept. 3, 2007, in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a lengthy illness. He was 82.

Mr. McFarland was born May 19, 1925, in Bluefield, Va., to Gordon C. McFarland Sr. and Jennie M. Absher cq McFarland.

He was employed by the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. and later retired from the U.S. Soil Conservation Service in Bucks County. After retirement, Mr. McFarland worked part-time for Mercer County Conservation District.

He attended Bethany Presbyterian Church in Mercer and was a member of Free and Accepted Masons Lodge 245, Doyletown, Pa.; and Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory.

A decorated U.S. Army veteran, Mr. McFarland served in Germany and was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6345, Mercer.

His wife, the former Louise Smith, whom he married Nov. 1, 1956, survives at the residence.

Also surviving is a daughter, Janet Ann McFarland, Jacksonville, Fla.

Mr. McFarland was preceded in death by his parents; four sisters, Lillian, Zelma, Katherine and Mary; and five brothers, Edward, Eugene, James, Aubrey and Gordon McFarland.

Memorial contributions may be made to Family Hospice and Palliative Care, Colonial Square, 1965 Shenango Valley Freeway, Suite 2, Hermitage 16148.

Calling hours: 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday (9-5-07) in CUNNINGHAM FUNERAL HOME Inc., 144 S. Pitt St., Mercer.

Service: Funeral service at 11 a.m. Thursday (9-6-07) in the funeral home with the Rev. James Leuenberger, pastor, officiating, assisted by Sue Allen, commissioned lay pastor.

Interment: Mount Washington Cemetery, Jefferson Township.
