Frank J. “Bud” Murcko Sr. of Brookfield died peacefully at 5:05 a.m. Wednesday (7-16-08) in The Hospice House of Poland, Ohio, with his loving family by his side after an extended illness. He was 83.

Mr. Murcko was born May 16, 1925, at home in Brookfield, a son of John S. and Mary Pastorek Murcko.

A 1943 graduate from Brookfield High School, Bud furthered his education by attending ATS Technical School, Niles, Ohio.

Bud retired in 1995 from Commercial Intertech, Youngstown, after 25 years as a research technician. He also operated the family farm most of his life.

In his spare time, Bud enjoyed polka music, flowers and gardening, but his passion was farming. Most of all, he loved spending time with his six grandchildren.

He was a member of Queen of the Holy Rosary Church, Vienna; and the Commercial Intertech Retirees.

His wife, the former Geraldine “Gerri” T. Zajack, whom he married May 19, 1962, survives at home.

Also surviving are: his children, Frank J. Murcko Jr. and his wife Tammy; and Rita Brest and her husband Kenneth III, all Hubbard; Maureen Unruh and her husband John II, Brookfield; and Brenda Hall and her husband Rick, Brookfield; his sister, Ann Volarich, Poland; and his grandchildren, Samuel and Lauren Murcko; Charity and Chloe Unruh; and R.J. and Justin Hall.

Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, John, Joseph, Steve, George and Andrew Murcko; and his sisters, Mary Mizicko, Margaret Sabulski and Helen Settlemeyer.

As an expression of sympathy, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Road, Poland, OH 44514; or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Youngstown, Ohio 44512.

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone at The Hospice House, the nurses of Hospice of the Valley and to Dr. Jeffrey F. Gryn and his staff at Sharon Regional Cancer Care Center.
