Roy A. O’Hare

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (5-21-08) for Roy A. O’Hare, of 5121 Seneca Road, South Pymatuning Township, who passed away at 8:25 a.m. Saturday (5-17-08) at Cleveland Clinic after a brief illness. He was 79.
A son of the late William and Bessie Steen O’Hare, he was born March 19, 1929, in South Pymatuning Township.
He served in the Army during the Korean War and enlisted as one of the oldest members of the Air Force, serving Jan. 16, 1991, in the Persian Gulf.
Mr. O’Hare retired from the former Sharon Steel Corp.’s Farrell Plant in 1986 after 32 years of service.
He married the former Eleanor J. Papay on June 22, 2002, who survives at home. He was previously married to the former Helen L. Rung, who passed away.
A member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ in Hermitage, he was also a member of Golden Circle and active at Bethlehem Presbyterian Church, Sharon.
He was a member of Shenango Valley Masonic Lodge 810 and very active in lodges throughout the world.
Mr. O’Hare was a member of Eastern Star Lodge 156, Farrell; New Castle Consistory, Mercer County Shriners, Grotto and Zem Zem.
He was an original Ronald McDonald at McDonalds’ restaurants, an avid hunter, enjoyed crossword puzzles and loved animals.
Mr. O’Hare was a volunteer for South Pymatuning Volunteer Fire Department for many years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Karen Hice and her husband, John, of Masury; a son, Robert O’Hare, of Sharon; a stepdaughter, Jane Ford, of Nags Head, N.C.; two grandchildren and a great-grandson.
Besides his parents and former wife, he was preceded in death by two brothers and a stepsister.
Donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in his memory.

Service: A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday (5-21-08) at St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Hermitage, with the Rev. David Williamson officiating. A service will also be held by Masonic Lodge 810 at 7:45 p.m. today in the funeral home.
Burial: Westside Cemetery, South Pymatuning Township, with full military honors by West Middlesex Veterans of Foreign Wars and Wheatland American Legion.
