World War II vet owned Plantation Inn Tavern
Albert “Al” M. Miklos, 507 W. Cornell Road, Coolspring Township, died at 8:25 p.m. Friday (5-16-08) in Assumption Village, North Lima, Ohio, after an extended illness. He was 88.
Mr. Miklos was born Dec. 8, 1919, in Sharon, to Michael and Mary Pavlo Miklos.
Al graduated in 1938 from Sharon High School.
Al served in the Army during World War II from 1942 to 1945. He fought in the battles of Guadalcanal, New Guinea, Northern Solomons and Luzon. He received four Bronze Stars for the Asiatic-Pacific Theater and one Bronze Star for the Philippine Liberation.
After serving his country, he went to work for Westinghouse Electric Corp. as a production clerk.
In 1952, he and his wife bought commercial property on South Hermitage Road and owned and operated the Plantation Inn Tavern for 25 years, now known as Chiccarino’s in Hermitage.
After retiring in 1977, he went to work for Interstate Auction in Mercer for 10 years.
He was a member of St. John’s Carpatho-Russian Orthodox Church, Sharon.
He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage; Loyal Order of the Moose Farrell Lodge 55; former Hickory Township Booster Club; the American Carpatho-Russian Citizen and Social Club, Farrell; and the former Bobby’s Corners Community Association.
He loved dogs, but most of all he loved his grandchildren and spending time with them.
Surviving are: his wife, the former Marjorie Davis, whom he married Oct. 16, 1948, at home; a daughter, Paula McClusky and her husband, Dr. Robert, of Canfield, Ohio, and their children, Ashley and Andrew; a son, Jon Miklos, Kansas City, and his children, Jessica, Joseph and Jordan; sisters, Helen Walczak and her husband, Edward, Boca Raton, Fla.; and Betty Mahefky, Ocala, Fla.; and a brother, Raymond Miklos and his wife, Barbara, Hermitage.
His parents; three sisters, Anna Ondulich, Mary Burich and infant Margaret Miklos; and a brother, John Miklos, preceded him in death.
