Published May 15, 2008 01:35 pm - Dr. Patrick F. Clune, 42 Station St., formerly of 676 S. Hermitage Road, both Hermitage, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, in his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was 70.

Podiatrist, vitamin retailer was marathon runner


Dr. Patrick F. Clune, 42 Station St., formerly of 676 S. Hermitage Road, both Hermitage, passed away at 10:10 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, in his home after a brief battle with cancer. He was 70.

Dr. Clune was born Nov. 17, 1937, in Sharon to John and Margaret Deigan Clune.

He graduated from Sharon High School in 1957, then attended Mount Union College, Alliance, Ohio, subsequently receiving his doctor of podiatry degree from the Cleveland Clinic.

Dr. Clune opened his practice in Hermitage and helped many runners, athletes and school athletes in the Shenango Valley for more than 30 years. After retiring, he opened Clune Vitamin Center that he operated for 15 years, one in Hermitage, another in Volant and yet another in California. He currently had a store on State Street in Hermitage.

Dr. Clune was a lifetime member of the Podiatric Association. He enjoyed running, having participated in more than 20 marathons, including a 50-mile marathon.

He was active in the community and in sports and enjoyed water skiing.

A published author, he penned Dr. Clune’s Guide to Healthy and Happy Living.

His wife, the former Carol DuBois, whom he married April 21 of this year, survives at home.

Also surviving are: two sons, Chris Clune and his wife Sharon, Lower Burrell, Pa.; and Jeff Clune, Apple Valley, Minn.; two stepsons, Joseph Bennington, Hermitage, and his companion, Becky Free; and Robert Bennington and his wife Marla, Sharpsville; two sisters, Marjorie Pilipovich and Mary Ann Burdorf, both Las Vegas, Nev.; three grandchildren, Matthew, Jennifer and Lauren; his stepgrandchildren, Claire and Chloe; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Patrick Clune; two sisters, Betty Jane Heldt and Patricia Reynolds; and a brother, John Clune Jr.

Memorial contributions may be made to Sharon Regional Health System Hospice, 2320 Highland Road, Hermitage 16148.
