Joseph J. Renshaw

Joseph J. Renshaw, 190 Maple Drive, Hermitage, passed away at 8:25 p.m. Monday, May 12, 2008, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System after a brief illness. He was 89.
Mr. Renshaw was born on Friday, May 25, 1918, in Sharon to John and Anna Lotka Renshaw.
A 1936 graduate of Sharon High School, he attended Pennsylvania State University.
Mr. Renshaw worked in the Production, Planning and Scheduling Department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 43 years, retiring in 1979. He previously worked in sales for 12 years at Montgomery Ward, Hermitage.
A U.S. Navy veteran, Mr. Renshaw served as a C/M unknown third class in the South Pacific on Guam and Saipan during World War II, entering the military in June of 1945, and discharged, April 1946. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Hickory Post 6166, Hermitage.
Mr. Renshaw was a member of St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church in Hermitage; American Carpatho-Russian Citizens and Social Club, Sharon; and was a former treasurer of Westinghouse Veterans Employee Association.
An avid sportsman and outdoorsman, Joseph enjoyed hunting and fishing; played baseball and golf for Westinghouse; and golfed with St. Michael’s Golf League. As a member of F.H. Buhl Club, he was a former member of the Buhl Club Scout Master Troop 8, played volleyball and enjoyed swimming at the club.
He loved to do crossword puzzles, enjoyed traveling and in the late 1930s, flying at Five Points.
His first wife, the former Margaret Chachko, whom he married on Jan. 11, 1941, passed away in 1988. His second wife, the former Catherine Onestak, whom he married in 1988, is deceased.
Surviving are: a daughter, Arlene Skeliski, Youngstown; three sons, Ronald Renshaw and his wife Joy, Sharon; Joseph Renshaw and his wife Geraldine, Hermitage; and Kenneth Renshaw and his wife Mary, Sharpsville; a sister, Sue Melnik, Greenville; three grandchildren, Dawn and her husband Larry D’Orazio; Shawn Renshaw and SheryLee Renshaw; and three great-grandchildren, Olivia, Gabriela and Adriana D’Orazio.
Besides his first and second wives, he was preceded in death by his parents; 2 sisters, Betty Treantenou and Marion Virostick; and two brothers, John and Michael Renshaw.

Service: Divine Liturgy at 11 a.m. Thursday (5-15-08) in St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Church, Hermitage, with the Rev. Frank Firko, pastor, as celebrant. A Panachida service will be held at 10:15 a.m. prior to services in the funeral home. Full military honors will be rendered by the Honor Guard of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6233, West Middlesex; and American Legion Post 432, Wheatland.
Interment: St. Michael’s Byzantine Catholic Cemetery, Hermitage.
