Published May 15, 2008 10:29 am - Adelfo “Dale” D. Caporossi, 1715 Woodside Drive, Hermitage, passed away of natural causes at 1:06 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 87.

WE retiree, WWII veteran was area jazz musician


Adelfo “Dale” D. Caporossi, 1715 Woodside Drive, Hermitage, passed away of natural causes at 1:06 p.m. Saturday, May 10, 2008, in the hospital of Sharon Regional Health System. He was 87.

Mr. Caporossi was born March 24, 1921, in Youngstown to Peter and Francis Marucci Caporossi.

He graduated from Rayen High School in Youngs-town, then from what is now Youngstown State University.

Dale worked in the marketing department of the former Sharon Transformer Division of Westinghouse Electric Corp. for more than 30 years.

A U.S. Army veteran, he served during World War II and also in a tour of duty in Japan. He belonged to Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5286, Farrell; and American Legion Post 299, Sharon.

He was also a member of Church of Notre Dame, Hermitage; American Federation of Musicians, New Castle; and the Italian Home Club, Farrell.

He was a former member of Knights of Columbus, Farrell; and was a union representative for Westinghouse.

A well-known area jazz musician, Dale played for more than 50 years with the Benny Jones Orchestra and was a substitute for the Benny Goodman Band.

He enjoyed watching birds.

His wife, the former Anne Sekela, whom he married in May of 1946, passed away March 30 of this year.

Surviving are: a son, Dale T. Caporossi, Sharon; a daughter-in-law, Moni Caporossi, Sagamore Hills, Ohio; and his grandchildren, Matthew and Catherine Caporossi; and Stephen DiDonato.

Besides his wife, Dale was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Robert W. Caporossi; a daughter-in-law, Gordana Caporossi, who passed away March 15 of this year; a sister, Rena Bradley; and a brother, Joseph Caporossi.
