CLEVELAND — Mary C. Shedaker of 152 Cummins Ave., Conneaut, Ohio, died at 9:45 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2008, in Cleveland Clinic Hospital. She was 82.
Mrs. Shedaker was born July 12, 1925, in Elizabeth, N.J., a daughter to the late Frank and Hazel Edith Smith Witzel.
Mrs. Shedaker was a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Ashtabula, Ohio.
She was a graduate of Wicomico High School, Salisbury, Md., where she was valedictorian of her class. She also graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in education from Rutgers University in New Jersey, and received her master’s degree from Temple University, Philadelphia, as a reading specialist.
She taught for 25 years in the New Jersey Public School System, retiring in 1984 from Cherry Hill School District. She spent most of her professional career devoted to the teaching of children with learning disabilities.
She was very active as a volunteer with the American Cancer Society.
Her husband, Stanley Smith Shedaker, whom she married in 1944, died in 2001.
Surviving are: her daughter, Mrs. Donald (Kathleen) Thomas, Conneaut; a son, Stanley S. Shedaker Jr. and his wife Rachael, Salisbury; and five grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Mrs. Shedaker’s honor to the memorial fund of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 4901 Main Ave., Ashtabula, OH 44004; or to the Mercer County unit of the American Cancer Society, Shenango Valley Freeway, Hermitage, PA 16148.

Service: Funeral services at 11 a.m. May 31 in the church with the Rev. David Evans, cannon, and the Rev. Barbara Johnson, former rector of the church, co-officiating.
Burial: Cremation arrangements by SAMPLE-O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME Inc., East State Street at North Oakland Avenue, Sharon.
