A funeral service will be held Friday for Marvin Robert “Bob” Manbeck, 2244 Mercer-West Middlesex Road, Lackawannock Township. He passed away at 2:06 p.m. Tuesday (4-30-08) in his home. He was 79.

Mr. Manbeck was born Dec. 6, 1928, in Wheatland to Marvin H. and Elizabeth Miles Manbeck.

He was a graduate of West Middlesex High School Class of 1946.

Mr. Manbeck retired after 38è years from Westinghouse Corp., where he was unit manager of the Transformer Division Service, then went on to the Reynolds plant where he served as plant manager. He made several trips as a consultant to Puerto Rico. He also worked for 10 years in sales and marketing for Howard Johnson’s of Mercer and was employed for eight years at the Pennsylvania Welcome Center on Interstate 80.

Bob was a member of Unity Presbyterian Church, Lackawannock Township, and served many years on the Unity Cemetery Board, having held positions of both secretary and treasurer.

He also belonged to Free and Accepted Masons Kedron Lodge 389, West Middlesex; and Scottish Rite’s New Castle Consistory.

He formerly served on West Middlesex School Board.

An avid sportsman, Bob enjoyed the time spent at his camp in Marienville, Pa.

His wife, the former Betty Thompson, whom he married Feb. 14, 1948, survives at the residence.

Also surviving are: three grandchildren, Carie cq Moore and her husband Cory; and Thomas J. Manbeck, all West Middlesex; and Christopher R. Manbeck and his wife Barb, Grove City; a stepsister, Faith Plummer, Hadley; a brother, William C. Manbeck and his wife Beverly, Sheffield, Pa.; six great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Thomas R. Manbeck, who passed away in 2004; a brother, Lewis Manbeck; and his stepmother, Hazel Manbeck.

Memorial contributions may be made to Unity Cemetery Association.
