Published April 29, 2008 01:22 pm - Funeral service will be Thursday (5-1-08) for Gerald W. Barlett, 27 Manor Drive, Grove City. He died at 3:16 p.m. Saturday (4-26-08) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66.

20-year Army vet lived in GC, had worked in Mass.


Funeral service will be Thursday (5-1-08) for Gerald W. Barlett, 27 Manor Drive, Grove City. He died at 3:16 p.m. Saturday (4-26-08) in Grove City Medical Center, Pine Township, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 66.

Mr. Barlett was born Thursday, May 15, 1941, in Sharon to William O. and Marion Langley Barlett.

He attended Sharpsville schools and served in the Army during the Vietnam era in the Pacific and European theaters as a sergeant first class E-7 in security, receiving an honorable discharge with 20 years active duty. He received the Meritorious Medal and Certificate of Achievement.

Mr. Barlett was employed for seven years as an electronic technician at A.E.G. Schneider, Andover, Mass. He also worked for 14 years at Wang Labs in Lowell, Mass., as an electronics technician.

He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Grove City.

Mr. Barlett enjoyed camping and fishing. He loved the outdoors and model trains and was an avid Steelers fan.

Mr. Barlett was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was the husband of the former Marcia L. Allen, whom he married Aug. 15, 1964, in Warrenton, Va.

During their marriage, Mr. and Mrs. Barlett resided in Sharpsville, New Hampshire and Grove City.

Surviving besides his wife in Grove City are: a sister, Becky Barlett, wife of Rev. Frank Sherman, Connellsville, Pa.; two nieces, Lori Lievre and her husband Arthur, Winchester, Va.; and Joni Seifrick, Dallas; and three nephews, Jack A. Seifrick and his wife Ann; Michael M. Baker and his wife Tracy; and Joseph A. Baker and his wife Romy, all Texas.

His parents preceded him in death.
