John Alexander Woods

NASHVILLE, Tenn. — John Alexander Woods, Nashville, passed away Sunday afternoon, April 20, 2008, in The Baptist Hospital, Nashville. He was 83.
Mr. Woods was born April 9, 1925, in Sharpsville to Harry and Elma Burns Woods.
He grew up in western Pennsylvania and graduated from Washington and Jefferson College, Washington, Pa.
An Army veteran, he served his country in the Korean conflict, then moved to Tennessee.
Middle Tennessee became his home soon thereafter, where he ultimately became owner of Woods Equipment Co., now run by his two sons, John and Bill.
Mr. Woods was a Free and Accepted Mason and a longtime member of Tennessee Road Builders Association.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 29 years, Carroll Woods.
He is survived by: his second wife, Audrey Pierce Woods, at home; his children, a son, John A. Woods Jr., and his son, Matthew; a daughter, Becky, wife of Tim Garrett, and their children, Kile, Katie, John and Jim; a daughter, Patty, wife of Russell Weatherford, and their children, Callie, Alex, Robert and Daniel; and a son, Bill Woods, husband of Alicia, and their children, Will, David, Carroll Ann and Jack.
Also surviving are: his wife Audrey’s children, Deborah and Webb Jr.; her grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and Mr. Woods’s siblings, David Woods and Jane Williams; and numerous nephews, nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces.  Mr. Woods’s 10 grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be his friends in the community of faith at Glen Leven Presbyterian Church, Nashville, where Mr. Woods was a longtime member and served as an elder.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Glen Leven Presbyterian Church, 3906 Franklin Road, Nashville, TN 37204; or the National Kidney Foundation of Middle Tennessee, 2120 Crestmoor Road, Nashville, TN 37215-2613.

Calling hours: 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday (4-24-08) and 10 a.m. to time of service Friday (4-25-08) in Glen Leven Presbyterian Church, 3906 Franklin Road, Nashville.
Service: Funeral services at 11 a.m. Friday in the church with the Rev. Dr. Mark Bryan, pastor, officiating. 
Interment: Immediately following at Woodlawn Cemetery, Nashville.
