HHS play “Noises Off” opens today
HERMITAGE -- Hickory High School students will stage “Noises Off” at 7 p.m. today through Friday in the high school auditorium. The Michael Frayn play follows a motley bunch of actors as they struggle to stage a play. Tickets: 724-981-8750, Ext. 1244, or at the door.
John Barnes to celebrate his 100th
GROVE CITY — John “Lee” Barnes will celebrate his 100th birthday with a breakfast buffet at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 5 in the first floor dining room of Trinity Living Center, 400 Hillcrest Ave., Grove City. Presentations and acknowledgments will be 9 a.m.
Barnes worked 25 years for Grove City Borough electric plant, as a guard for Cooper Bessemer and for Smith Funeral Home. He attends Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.
Barnes is a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins, Pirates and Steelers. Barnes’ wife, Harriet, is a homemaker.

Westminster College plans ‘Get Real!’ lecture
NEW WILMINGTON — David Smith, an accounting professor at Westminster College in New Wilmington, will present “Being a Smart Investor” from 12:40 to 1:50 p.m. Thursday in McKelvey Campus Center’s Witherspoon Lakeview Room, on campus.
This will be the third part of the “Get Real!” life preparation series, Investment opportunities beyond checking and savings accounts will be covered. Sponsored by the student affairs office, the series acquaints students with life after college.

Lube sets ski, snowboard party Thursday
SHARON — The Quaker Steak & Lube Ski & Snowboard Party is set for 7 p.m. Thursday in downtown Sharon.
The event is sponsored by Budweiser, the Ski Chalet and Pepsi. Y1031’s Scott Kennedy will host.
There will be prizes and giveaways, including overnight packages, lift tickets, ski accessories and outfits and snowboards.
The event also is a Toys for Tots drive with every person who donates a toy receiving an additional registration form to increase their chances for winning prizes.
The party runs in conjunction with downtown Sharon’s Light Up Night and fireworks display at 7:15 p.m.
Former pro basketball player speaking at Thiel
GREENVILLE — A former American Basketball Association and National Basketball Association player will speak Friday at Thiel College in Greenville.
Jim Chones will discuss transition to life after collegiate athletics, goal setting and improving students’ marketability after college.
