McKeever announces fall nature programs

McKeever Environmental Learning Center, 55 McKeever Lane, Sandy Lake, offers a variety of programs for families. They include:

Night Sky — 7 p.m. Oct. 9 (Rain date Oct. 10); Philip Tramdack, director of Library Services at Slippery Rock University, will teach about stars and basics of telescopes as participants will look at focal points.

Sunday Stroll — 1 to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 11; participants will take a walk in the woods beginning at the information shelter, and identify some of the local trees and why they turn certain colors.

Bring your own drinking water and wear weather-appropriate clothing and shoes suitable for uneven terrain.

Migration Morning — 7:30 a.m. Oct. 17; participants will learn how to identify birds in the forest, field and marsh habitats, with some rare species possible during migration.

The program is free, with binoculars available on a first-come, first-served basis.

For more information, visit www.McKeever.org or call 724-376-1000 from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.

The grounds are open to the public year-round from sunrise to sunset.
