Jamestown Lions Club taking eyeglasses at fair
JAMESTOWN — Jamestown Lions Club during the Jamestown Fair will collect eyeglasses in boxes at the Lions Community Center and Beef and Hog raffle stand. The glasses will be given to Lens Crafters, which will clean, measure and mark the glasses and send them to countries in need.

JAMESTOWN — Jamestown Lions Club during the Jamestown Fair will collect eyeglasses in boxes at the Lions Community Center and Beef and Hog raffle stand. The glasses will be given to Lens Crafters, which will clean, measure and mark the glasses and send them to countries in need. The Lions Club at the fair also will have a french fry stand, Lions Community Center meals and Beef and Hog raffle. The fair runs through Saturday.

Free breast cancer screenings announced

HERMITAGE — UPMC Horizon is teaming up with Family Planning Services to offer free breast cancer screenings during Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October. Screenings will be held in both the Greenville and Shenango Valley areas. The first set of screenings will be from 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 2 at Family Planning Services, 74 Shenango St., Greenville. Participants will receive a free clinical breast examination and PAP smear as well as a voucher for a free mammogram at UPMC Horizon’s Greenville campus.

The hospital in Greenville will offer free mammograms from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 3. The second set of screenings will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Friday, Oct. 9, at Family Planning Services, 87 Stambaugh Ave., Sharon, with free mammograms offered from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 10 at the Womancare Center of UPMC Horizon, 875 N. Hermitage Road, Hermitage.

To qualify for the screenings, women must be over 40 and have no insurance or a high insurance deductible. To schedule an appointment for an examination and mammogram, call Family Planning Services at 724-588-2272 for Greenville or 724-981-6250 for Sharon. To schedule a mammogram only, call UPMC Horizon Centralized Scheduling at 724-589-6681 or 724-983-8864. Also in recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Womancare Center will once again serve free slices of Ma Peg’s pies to every woman who has a mammogram at the center during the month of October. Ma Peg, a.k.a. Peg Leonard, is a retired UPMC Horizon employee.
