Clark VFD auxiliary disbanding

CLARK

The Clark Volunteer Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary will be disbanding after 60 years of service, according to member Carol Bradley.

The organization began in 1948 with 20 members. Five of those members are still alive: President Juanita Dixon, Evelyn Heim, Florence Durney, Mary Catherine Osborne and Louise Young.

The women of the auxiliary organized when the fire department formed to help raise money for the department and the community.

Mrs. Dixon, who is 95, said the women used to bake cakes and have sales and card parties.

“There’s nothing for us to do anymore because we’re not able,” she said. She also said the women have invited others to join over the years for the annual dues of just $1, but not many people are interested.

At the spring banquet in May, all the remaining members of the auxiliary received certificates and plants.

A tea to honor the women’s contribution to the community is set for 7 p.m. ThursdayJune 26 at 7 p.m. at the borough building on Winner Road.
