County Grange fair seeks angel food cake entries
MERCER COUNTY — Mercer County Grange Fair is seeking entries for the angel food cake contest set for July 7 through 12 during the fair.
Entries will be judged on flavor, texture, overall appearance, creativity and topping, icing or decoration. Cakes must be brought between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. July 7 to the fairgrounds.
Eggs from the Pennsylvania Egg Quality Assurance must be used and the group symbol from the carton must be submitted along with the entry.
A copy of the recipe on an 8è-by-11 inch paper with entrant’s name, address and phone number on the back also is needed. Info: Virginia Richardson, 724-748-4007.
County Grange Fair sets coloring contest
MERCER COUNTY — Mercer County Grange Fair is conducting a coloring contest in conjunction with the fair to run July 7 through 12. Coloring books are available from fair board members and at Allied News in Grove City.
Participants are to color one page from the coloring book and bring the page with name, address, phone number and age printed on the back of the page. Entries are due between 10 a.m. and 8 p.m. July 7. Info: 724-458-8181.
Register early for Master Gardener classes
GREENVILLE — Those interested in taking the Mercer County Master Gardener courses offered at the Greenville Recreation Center in June and July must register by calling 724-588-4810.
Any class that has fewer than five people registered will be canceled. Registration and payment may be done from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays in the center’s business office. Info: 724-588-8819. The class list appears at www.sharonherald.com
