Summerfest 2008 planned in Farrell
FARRELL — City of Farrell Summerfest 2008 will continue today through June 14 in collaboration with the Juneteenth celebration.
These events will be from 7 to 10 p.m.:
• June 12 — Farrell’s Jerry Chiodo and Bob Thomas performing oldies.
• June 13 — Gospel night featuring local church choirs and mime and dance teams.
A youth talk show, gospel singing, karaoke and a father-and-son look-a-like contest will be June 14, the 14th annual Juneteenth celebration. A parade will be at 9:30 a.m. that day. All events will be at Veterans Square and Municipal Complex grounds, Farrell.
Fun Zone Entertainment will provide amusement rides. Farrell Recreation Commission and Minority Health Center are event sponsors.
Lakeview library helping 'Catch Reading Bug'
SANDY LAKE TOWNSHIP — “Catch the Reading Bug” will be the summer reading program theme at Lakeview Area Public Library. Children may register from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesdays, 1 to 7 p.m. Wednesdays, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturdays in the library; and during Sandy Lake Days, June 13 and 14 in Sandy Lake Borough Building’s community room.
The summer reading will begin with a picnic from 9:30 to 11 a.m. June 18 in McQuiston Park, Sandy Lake.
The summer reading program will be every Wednesday through July 23. The last day will include presentation of “Wish Upon a Butterfly.”
A Painted Lady butterfly can be purchased for $5 through the library and picked up by July 23. Butterflies will be released at 11 a.m. Funds will support the program and give children a chance to watch a butterfly grow from the cocoon stage into an adult.
