Jay, Americans to play hits at Sharon Car Cruise

SHARON — Vocal Group Hall of Fame will present Jay and the Americans in the parking lot of the Columbia Theatre, Sharon, during the Aug. 9 Sharon Car Cruise.

The group originated in New York in the late ‘50s with Jay Traynor on lead vocals. It hit it big with “She Cried” in 1962, but Traynor left the band.

Guitarist Marty Sanders recruited his friend, David Blatt, who changed his first name to Jay Black.

The new group had a moderate hit with “Only in America,” and fared better with “Come a Little Bit Closer,” “Let’s Lock the Door,” “Some Enchanted Evening” and “Sunday and Me.”

Original members Sanders and Howie Kane will be joined by Sandy Deanne and a new Jay, Jay Reincke.

The 6:30 p.m. show will go on rain or shine, and lawn chairs are welcome

Tickets: 724-983-2025 or www.vocalgroup.org
